A week after taking a 43% stake in Internet navigator Infoseek, the Walt Disney Co. further signaled its devotion to high tech Thursday by appointing technology entrepreneur Judith Estrin to its board.
Estrin, 43, is chief technology officer and senior VP of Cisco Systems, the San Jose-based provider of computer networking services and devices. In the past 16 years, Estrin has founded three startups with her husband, Bill Carrico:
- Bridge Communications, a local-area network and internetworking business, which was bought by 3COM in 1987 for $235 million;
- Network Computing Devices, where she served as CEO; and
- Precept Software, a multimedia networking software company purchased for $84 million in March by Cisco.
