Corbis Corp., the Bill Gates-owned company that provides photography and fine art content through the Internet, has acquired Outline Press, a global photo agency specializing in celebrity portraits.
Seattle-based Corbis said the merger makes it the world’s leading provider of celebrity photography, in addition to its previous products including Internet-based visual content and services for creative professionals and other image consumers.
Under terms of the corporate purchase agreement, Outline, with more than 50 employees, will operate as a division of Corbis under the name Corbis Outline. Outline will maintain its offices in Los Angeles and New York City.
Outline founder Jim Roehrig will continue to oversee Corbis Outline operations as managing director.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Corbis develops digital imagery technologies and systems to address issues including cataloging, archiving and Internet-based search, retrieval and transactional capabilities.
Corbis’ collection contains some 23 million images, with more than 1.3 million available online.
This year, Corbis has also acquired Digital Stock and Westlight, providers of commercial photography.
