Cartoon Net Online ups exec

Toon site rings up Register as VP

Sam Register has been upped from creative director to vice president of Cartoon Network Online, the Internet entertainment side of Turner Broadcasting’s 24-hour, all-toon network.

“Sam understands how best to marry Cartoon Network’s personality and look to the online arena in a way that is not only complementary to our network strategy but is also compelling enough to stand on its own as one of the best Internet destinations for cartoon fans,” said Rob Sorcher, executive vice president for Turner Broadcasting.

Content on Cartoon Network Online complements the television programming with features such as the Dept. of Cartoons (which draws from the network’s copious cartoon archives), the official Space Ghost Web site and interactive animation tools for children.

Register, an eight-year veteran in design and production of online content for children, came to Cartoon Network Online one year ago from San Francisco based Colossal Pictures, where he was creative director. His projects there included art direction for the Mix ups, six animated interstitials for the Disney Channel as well as the development of the new Frogger character for the Hasbro Interactive videogame. He also consulted on projects for Disney, Web TV and Microsoft.

Register’s other positions include creative director for Turner New Media in San Francisco and development positions for kids’ television programming.
