Macrovision Corp. has inked a one-year agreement with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment to copy protect all of the studio’s future DVDs produced in the U.S. and Canada.
Under the deal, Fox will use Macrovision’s DVD copy protection to prevent unauthorized copying of DVD programming to VCRs without impacting the original picture.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
With Fox as a client, Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Macrovision becomes the leading provider of copy protection for DVDs produced by most studios. The company’s protection software exists on 75 percent of all DVDs produced in the past year, or over 15 million titles.
