Stuart Zakim, the Gotham-based vice president of publicity for Universal, has ankled his post in the wake of last month’s departure of his longtime bosses, marketing co-chiefs Buffy Shutt and Kathy Jones.
“With the resignation of Buffy and Kathy, it seemed like a logical time to move on,” said Zakim. “They created a unique environment that I don’t see being duplicated.”
Zakim, who’s been part of the U publicity department for eight years, described his parting from the studio as amicable and said he has not yet settled on a future professional direction.
Meanwhile, U’s Jeffrey Sakson, who has been co-veepee of national publicity with Zakim, will remain in his post at the studio’s Los Angeles headquarters.
Zakim joined Universal in 1990 as director of theatrical production publicity. He rose to exec director of national publicity, and in 1993 was upped to vice president of national publicity.
Previous publicity positions include a three-year stint at Rolling Stone magazine, and posts at De Laurentiis Entertainment and Columbia.
