Murdoch's News denies soccer bid; Matsushita's milestone

Rupert Murdoch’s News Intl. has flatly denied a report that it is considering a takeover bid for the struggling Tottenham Hotspur soccer club.

A News Intl. spokesperson dismissed as “not true” the story in the Guardian newspaper that Murdoch was in preliminary talks with Tottenham chairman Alan Sugar about taking control of the club, which is publicly quoted.

Although it has a long way to go to catch McDonald’s global sales of hamburgers, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. said that it produced its 200 millionth TV set on Tuesday.

The company first started making TV sets in November 1952 and it took the Japanese electronics giant 33 years to produce 100 million sets. It took an additional 13 years to reach 200 million sets.

Matsushita makes TVs in 20 production bases in 18 countries, with 62% of TV production in Japan, 12% in North America, 5% in Europe and 17% in Asia.
