JAPAN

Sony Corp. has entered into a technical and capital alliance with struggling Japanese software maker Justsystem Corp.

Sony will buy 2 million new shares in the software maker, known for its Japanese language word processing products, for 1.27 billion yen ($920,000) and acquire a 6.7% stake in the company.

Technical cooperation will come in areas such as software for digital electronic appliances, the companies said. Justsystem makes the popular Japanese word processing program called Ichitaro.

LATIN AMERICA

Canal Fox, a leading pan-regional general entertainment channel in Latin America, has introduced a Spanish and Portuguese subtitle broadcast format exclusively for its feature and lifestyle programs in a scheduling roll-out, beginning July 1.

GERMANY

Juergen Richter, former chairman of Axel Springer Verlag AG, has taken over the position of head of specialist information at Bertelsmann AG. Richter replaces Bernhard von Minckwitz, who will accept new responsibilities in Bertelsmann’s book division.
