Wheatcroft exits ShoWest position

Replacement search to commence immediately

Daniel Wheatcroft, president and CEO of the National Assn. of Theatre Owners of California/Nevada and ShoWest, resigned his position abruptly May 29. A brief statement outlined that he would continue on as a consultant to the organization but would be pursuing “other opportunities.” Wheatcroft was unavailable for comment.

Wheatcroft is departing a year early on a three-year contract, and a replacement search will commence immediately under the direction of regional NATO chair Phil Harris.

In his brief tenure, Wheatcroft, who came from Universal, made rapid steps to expand ShoWest that included a beefed-up trade show and the development of an education program.

At the same time, he was known to have alienated several key people in both distribution and exhibition. The participation of studios as event sponsors had noticeably declined at the most recent convention in March.
