Walter N. Hiller dead at 72

Prominent theatrical agent

Walter N. Hiller, a prominent theatrical agent, died March 1 of cancer at UCLA Medical Center. He was 72.

Hiller, with his partner Richard Bauman, ran the Bauman Hiller Associates agency for the past 22 years. Their client roster included James Earl Jones, Ted Danson, Penny Marshall and Katharine Ross, among others.

Hiller was born in Chicago in 1925 and relocated to Los Angeles in 1954. He started as a talent agent with MCA, then moved to Ashley Steiner Famous until he formed his own company, the Hiller Agency, in 1963. He partnered with Bauman in1976.

Hiller, who was well known as an international traveler, also gained recognition as a photographer and a chef.

He is survived by a brother, two sons, two daughters and 10 grandchildren.

The family will announce a memorial service to be held in April in Los Angeles.

Donations can be made to the Bowyer Surgical Oncology Center at UCLA, the World Wildlife Fund or Aid for AIDS.
