Travolta lawsuit claims ads false

Actor seeks $5 mil in compensatory damages

John Travolta has filed a $5 million lawsuit against Silverado Films Inc. and Capital Funding Group Inc. for running two ads in USA Today in April that falsely claimed the actor was connected with a pair of investment vehicles.

According to a complaint filed Wednesday in L.A. Superior Court, one ad touted the sale of 1 million shares of Silverado stock to the public “in association with John Travolta Prods.”

The other ad promoted investment in a new venture between Travolta Prods. and Ruben Cannon Prods., according to the complaint.

Neither Travolta nor Cannon approved the ad and they are not engaged in any new venture, the suit said.

The complaint seeks at least $5 million in compensatory damages, unspecified punitive damages, and an injunction against further use of Travolta’s name and persona.
