TCI Music’s the Box has hired cable vet Greg Willis to head the music channel’s affiliate sales and marketing team.
As senior VP of affiliate sales and marketing, Willis will be responsible for distribution and affiliate retention for music video channel the Box and the Box Set, a digital multiplex of themed music channels.
Beginning in the fourth quarter, the Box affiliate sales group will be merged with the affiliate sales group of TCI Music’s DMX, a digital audio service. Willis will oversee this combined group.
Synergy at TCI
Combining the affiliate sales groups for the Box and DMX is one of the first examples of synergy between different divisions within TCI Music. The Miami Beach, Fla.-based Box was acquired by TCI Music in December.
TCI Music is a publicly traded company that is mostly owned by Liberty Media Corp., the programming arm of cable operator Tele-Communications Inc.
Willis, who will be based in the Box’ New York office, comes to the music service from Scripps Networks, where he was VP, digital networks, and oversaw the development of new digital cable channels such as Do It Yourself, a spin-off of Home & Garden Television.
Prior to Scripps, Willis was senior VP, worldwide distribution for the Food Network. Willis has also held positions with the Charlton Group and HBO.
Sam Boskovich, senior VP, DMX affiliate sales, will continue his management of the DMX commercial affiliate sales organization while Willis will oversee the DMX residential affiliate sales business. Boskovich and Willis will work together to coordinate DMX marketing.
