Sony taps Giaquinta for communications

Exec filling Redditt's shoes

Sony Pictures Entertainment has tapped former Silicon Graphics exec Jerry Giaquinta to head its corporate communications department.

Giaquinta, who reports to SPE executive vice president Yuki Nozoe, effectively replaces former department head Bruce Redditt, who ankled the studio in April, followed by senior VP Peter Wilkes, who departed at the beginning of August.

Giaquinta will be responsible for all aspects of SPE’s corporate communications efforts, including corporate affairs, external and internal communications, media relations, community affairs and coordination with Sony Corp. of America and Sony Corp. in Tokyo.

According to SPE, he also will work with the publicity execs of each of SPE’s various divisions to coordinate companywide media relations.

Sony, which is a strong believer in cultivating synergy between its various hardware and software interests, believes that Giaquinta’s technical experience will be a key bonus for the movie studio.

“Jerry’s background in technology will be especially helpful as technology and content creation become more integrated and we have to work closely with other parts of the Sony group to communicate coherent messages,” said Nozoe.

Giaquinta joins SPE from Silicon Graphics, where he was vice president of corporate marketing. Prior to that, he was vice president of corporate communications for Tandem Computers.
