BUENOS AIRES — Sony Pictures is about to ink a deal with top Argentine broadcaster Telefe to co-produce and distribute films and TV shows.
“The signing of the agreement has been postponed a few days because of a few legalities, but the bulk of the business is finished,” Telefe manager Victor Gonzalez told Daily Variety.
Gonzalez said the two companies are currently studying four film projects and one TV show.
Telefe has co-produced features with local players since 1995.
Last year it partnered with Patagonik Film Group on kidpic “Dibu: La Pelicula,” a TV spinoff that drew auds of 1.1 million and ranked third at the 1997 B.O.
Telefe has also spun off its hit kiddie TV shows “Chiquititas” and “Cebollitas” as legit productions, and both are likely bets for development as features.
The agreement between the Hollywood mammoth and Telefe follows a joint venture forged earlier this year between Buena Vista Intl. and rival broadcaster Artear, both of which took a 33% stake in Patgonik.
