Showbiz stox drop as Wall Street hits skids

Viacom, Disney, others fall as Dow Jones loses 112 points

Another volatile day on Wall Street saw showbiz stocks sink along with the broader market, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 112 points, or 1.3%, to close at 8462.85.

Among the entertainment stocks, Viacom plunged $3.62 to $59.81, Time Warner fell 87¢ to $89.87, while Walt Disney Co. closed down 75¢ to $32.12 and News Corp. fell 87¢ to $26.50.

The market plunge had been as great as 225 points on the Dow, suggesting that investors saw some bargains late in the day. Broader market indices fell even more, such as the Nasdaq, which dropped 2.53%.
