Former CAA agent to bring film scribes to small screen
Producer and former CAA agent Rob Scheidlinger has signed an exclusive overall deal with Buena Vista TV Prods.
Scheidlinger is an executive producer of ABC’s upcoming half-hour series “Sports Night” alongside creator Aaron Sorkin, whom Scheidlinger previously represented. Under terms of his Disney deal, Scheidlinger, through his company Omnibus, will attempt to identify and attract other feature film writers to TV.
The deal, which insiders say lasts two years with a third-year option, was announced by Lloyd Braun, chairman of Buena Vista TV Prods.
“The motion picture business has changed so much,” Scheidlinger said. “This medium (TV) is one of the only places left for serious storytelling. With the exception of ‘Saving Private Ryan,’ what dramas have worked in motion pictures?”
Scheidlinger began producing after he left CAA two years ago, and he currently has a film production deal at 20th Century Fox, which is set to expire at the end of the year. Prior to CAA, he was an agent at ICM, and he was an attorney at the New York City law firm Frankfurt, Garbus, Klein & Selz.
