LONDON — Planet Hollywood this week is expected to sign off on its first U.K. megaplex site, located in Manchester, and has an additional seven megaplex sites in the works in Britain.
At the same time, the company disclosed it plans — in its partnership with the U.S. exhib AMC — to build between four and six megas per year in Europe over the next few years. The only territories currently not under consideration for development are Germany and France.
On average, the plexes will be budgeted at about $20 million and will have up to 30 screens, according to Nat Lippman, Planet Hollywood senior exec VP for strategy. The cinemas will be housed in complexes featuring the Planet Hollywood-branded restaurants, as well as the company’s Cool Planet ice cream parlors and the sports-themed All Star Cafe’s.
