Andy Friendly has been upped to prexy of firstrun programming and production for King World Prods.
Friendly’s promotion coincides with a three-year extension of his contract with the indie syndie powerhouse, home of “Oprah Winfrey,” “Inside Edition,” “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!”
Friendly joined the company in 1995 as exec VP of programming and production. He’s credited with jumpstarting King World’s program development slate over the past three years.
Next month, Friendly will oversee the launch of two much-anticipated new KW syndie strips, “The Roseanne Show” and the Whoopi Goldberg-led revival of “Hollywood Squares.” King World also is developing a syndie talkshow vehicle for comedian Martin Short.
“It’s the King World way to have the best people working for us, in front of and behind the camera,” said KW vice chairman Michael King. “Andy Friendly is one of the best in this business.”
