Mann vet Davy joins Edwards

Vet named buyer at 663-screen circuit

Former Mann Theatres head film buyer Alan Davy has been tapped as a film buyer for the 663-screen Edwards Theatres Circuit.

Davy, who takes up his post Jan. 4, will report to Edwards head film buyer Chris LeRoy.

“We’re going to be opening an additional 190 screens in 1999, and we’re thrilled to have someone with Alan’s expertise and relationships join the Edwards film department,” LeRoy told Daily Variety.

Davy will be based at the circuit’s West L.A. film office where he will work alongside film buyer Barry Giberman.

“It’s a great opportunity,” Davy said. “I’m excited by the idea of working for a company that’s at the forefront of the exhibition business.”

Davy spent 22 years at the Festival and Mann theater chains. He began his exhibition career in 1975 as theater manager of the Festival Walnut Creek in Northern California. In 1980, he became a film buyer for Festival, which was merged under the Mann moniker in 1986.

Davy was promoted to senior VP and head film buyer in 1997, but left in August shortly after the circuit was bought by WestStar Cinemas.
