Mandell to head U global design wing

Exec to tackle recreation projects

Andrew J. Mandell has been chosen as executive veep for the Universal Studios Recreation Group’s design and development wing, Universal Creative.

Mandell will be responsible for the division’s global expansion projects and new product development. This includes the Universal Studios Escape resort skedded to open next summer in Florida; the Islands of Adventure theme park; CityWalk Orlando and themed hotels; Universal Studios Japan, scheduled to open in 2001 in Osaka; Universal’s Port Aventura in Spain and continued enhancement of product offerings at Universal Studios Hollywood and City Walk Hollywood.

Prior to joining Universal, Mandell served as senior veep and chief financial officer of ITT Sheraton Corp, directing the company’s worldwide financial control activities.
