Livent, AT&T grow Toronto Pantages

Prexies announce construction plans

TORONTO — Garth Drabinsky, chairman of Livent Inc., and James Meenan, president and CEO of AT&T Canada Enterprises Inc., have announced the immediate construction of a theater and hotel/condominium complex that will be attached to the existing 2,200 seat Pantages Theater in downtown Toronto.

The new complex will include a 1,400-seat theater directly south of the Pantages at an estimated cost of $25 million. The complex will be called the AT&T Centre for the Performing Arts and will be owned and operated by Livent. Opening is scheduled for the year 2000.

The backstage area of the Pantages will be expanded by 18 feet, making it suitable for larger-scale musicals. In addition there will bea full-service 313-room hotel and a condominium with 192 units. Negotiations are underway with Wyndham Intl. Inc. to operate the hotel, which would be known as Wyndham Hotel.
