NEW YORK — Lions Gate Releasing has promoted Tom Ortenberg to executive vice president and Amanda Sherwin to vice president of marketing.
Ortenberg joined Lions Gate’s predecessor, Cinepix Film Properties, in October 1996 as general sales manager of the U.S. releasing company and rose to senior VP. Prior to CFP, he ran his own entertainment consulting business with clients such as Hemdale Film Corp. and the Discovery Channel.
Ortenberg began his career in film in 1985 at Columbia Pictures, where he spent four years before joining start-up Hemdale as Western division manager. He rose to become president of distribution and marketing at Hemdale before leaving in 1995 to start his consulting business.
Sherwin worked for CFP for five years in various production and development-related positions before being named director of marketing in January 1995 when the company established its U.S. distribution division.
“Tom’s expertise and contacts have helped us take our films as far as they can go, while Amanda has been an integral part of the team since the company’s inception,” said Mark Urman, president of Lions Gate Releasing. “I look forward to working with them both at this pivotal time in our department.”
Ortenberg will now be involved in every aspect of Lions Gate’s activities.
Sherwin will continue to oversee the day-to-day marketing efforts of such Lions Gate releases as the current arthouse hit “Love and Death on Long Island” and the upcoming “Junk Mail.”
