Iwerks expands Euro ops

Company looks to bypass Asia woes

In response to the economic slowdown in Asia, Burbank-based Iwerks Entertainment is expanding its ride simulator business into the European market. The company has confirmed plans to install Iwerks TurboRide theaters in Scotland, Austria and Italy.

In Scotland, Iwerks has signed a contract with Scottish & Newcastle for a 48-seat TurboRide! theater to be installed in the fall of 1999 at Fountain Park, an urban entertainment center in Edinburgh.

On the continent, Iwerks has signed a contract with PlayCastle, Austria’s largest family entertainment center, to install a 16-seat TurboRide! theater. Located in the Tirolean Alps in Seefeld, Austria, the theater is skedded to open March, 1999.

Moving south, Iwerks has signed a contract with an Italian-based service marketing company, for an 18-seat TurboRide! theater. The theater will be installed in the Libreria Signorelli, an upscale tourist and educational center near the Trevi Fountain in Rome. It is scheduled to open October.
