Despite fervent pleas from producer Jerry Bruckheimer to run his company, Touchstone Pictures exec VP of production Mike Stenson is staying put — at least for the time being.
Bruckheimer has been wooing Stenson for more than a year with the notion of bringing Stenson into his company as the head honcho. Stenson, who is said to have his eye on the prexy post at Touchstone, has quietly listened.
Stenson is smack in the middle of his contract with Touchstone. But insiders say that wouldn’t be a problem, as Touchstone prexy Donald DeLine would probably allow it to be broken if Bruckheimer were insistent. Neither Stenson nor Bruckheimer was available for comment.
“The issue is that it’s Jerry,” says one source. “It’s not like he’s an interloper. We do a lot of stuff that keeps Jerry happy around here.”
Stenson was a production exec with Hollywood Pictures for seven years before joining Touchstone in 1996 after all the Hol-lywood Pictures execs departed and the label was laid dormant. Stenson has nothing to do with the new incarnation of Holly-wood under Disney/Hollywood prexy David Vogel.
Stenson currently is working with Bruckheimer on “Armageddon.” Other pics he is overseeing include “Six Days, Seven Nights,” “Instinct” and “Holy Man.”
Meanwhile sans Stenson, Bruckheimer is keeping his search for a senior exec open.
