Hoyts taps Pastor prexy for U.S. loop

Exec to steer U.S. operations, Ivany going back to Oz

SYDNEY — Rafael Pastor, the former prexy of USA Networks Intl., has been tapped for the new post of president/CEO of Hoyts Cinemas’ 950-screen U.S. loop.

Pastor, who signs on today at Hoyts’ U.S. headquarters in Boston, effectively replaces Peter Ivany, the Hoyts CEO who is returning to its Sydney home office at the end of 1998, after spending more than a year based in the U.S.

Given the responsibility for all strategic development and operational aspects of Hoyts’ U.S. business, Pastor will report to Ivany. Ivany has been personally driving Hoyts’ expansion in the U.S., as well as in Europe and Latin America, since Roger Eaton, the former chief operating officer of Hoyts’ U.S. banner, relocated to Sydney as COO of Hoyts’ interests in Australia and New Zealand.

Billing itself as the world’s seventh-largest exhib, Hoyts operates more than 1,540 screens in eight territories and is building cinemas in the U.K., Poland, Brazil and Uruguay.

Pastor’s resume includes spells as president of CBS/Fox Video Intl., exec VP of News Corp. and exec VP of Fox Intl. Before that, he practiced law at a Wall Street firm and at CBS Inc.
