Gustav S. Eyssell dies at 96

Former prexy of Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center

Gustav S. Eyssell, a former president of Rockefeller Center Inc. and the chairman of Radio City Music Hall during World War II, died Jan. 28 of natural causes in Hamilton, Va. He was 96.

Born Nov. 6, 1901, in Kansas City, Mo., he became an usher at the Isis Theater, then a neighborhood movie house. While still a young man, he became manager and treasurer of the Newman Theater Co. in downtown Kansas City.

Eyssell held several executive positions with the Paramount Publix circuit, including locations in California, Texas and New York.

Eyssell became an executive at Radio City Music Hall in 1933, and served as president and general manager of the Radio City Music Hall Corp. from 1942 to 1948, when he went to Rockefeller Center Inc.

Eyssell became president of Rockefeller Center Inc. in 1951. He retired in 1970 and continued for a time as consultant to the organization.

He is survived by his wife, Mercedes Marie Eyssell, and a number of cousins living in the Kansas City area and in California.
