Fox veteran Mike Darnell has been upped to exec VP of specials and alternative programming for Fox Broadcasting Co.
With the promotion, Darnell assumes responsibility for all Fox reality specs and series as well as the upcoming animated series “Family Guy,” “The PJs” and “Futurama.” Darnell, who was previously senior veep of specials and alternative programming, reports to Fox Entertainment Group prexy Peter Roth.
Roth cited the recent success of Fox’s summer series “Guinness World Records: Primetime” in announcing Darnell’s new exec VP stripes. Darnell has also shepherded Fox’s “World’s Wildest Police Videos” and other action-packed ratings grabbers.
“Thanks to Mike’s continuing efforts,” Roth said, “our goal of aggressively programming the summer and eventually the entire year ’round remain firmly in sight.”
Darnell began his tenure at Fox in the newsroom of Los Angeles O&O KTTV. He spent more than three years as exec producer of specials for the entire Fox O&O group before moving to the Fox web in 1994 as director of specials.
