VP of production ankles to make life as scribe
Twentieth Century Fox VP of production Lori Lakin is ankling her post to take up a career as a screenwriter.
During her four-year tenure at Fox, Lakin has helped supervise such films as “Waiting to Exhale,” “That Thing You Do!,” “Picture Perfect” and “The Truth About Cats and Dogs.” Most recently she oversaw the adaptation of Terry McMillan’s novel “How Stella Got Her Groove Back,” which is slated for release in July.
She was promoted from director of development to her current post in February 1997.
Sources at the studio said that veepee of acquisitions and production Michael Jenkinson is one candidate for Lakin’s slot. Jon Jashni, who has served as Fox Family Films’ senior vice president of production — the arm recently was renamed and restruc-tured as Fox Animation Studios — also has been mentioned as going over to Tom Rothman’s division as a production exec, but no decisions have been made.
In addition to Lakin’s post, Fox has been trying to fill another VP slot, which was left open by the promotion of Peter Rice to senior vice president earlier this year.
Though several candidates have been interviewed, Fox has not hired anyone for that post.
Neither Lakin nor Rothman returned phone calls seeking comment.
