TCI Communications, the cable system operations arm of Tele-Communications, has announced three exec promotions. Marvin Jones has been named president and CEO; Barbara Wood has been upped to exec VP, finance, cable operations; and Madison Bond has been appointed exec VP of programming administration. Jones, previously chief operating officer of TCIC, will now be responsible for all operational and company leadership. Wood, formerly senior VP of financial operations for TCIC, will be responsible for planning, budgeting, business operations and capital management for TCIC. Bond, who moved up from senior VP of programming administration, will continue to serve as president of Satellite Services, a TCI subsidiary that manages the delivery of video programming services to TCIC cable systems and TCI’s affiliates.

Elizabeth Hackett has joined Licht/Mueller Film as director of development, where she will seek out new material for the company, as well as develop current film and television projects. She was previously story editor at Moving Pictures.

Young Broadcasting has promoted Michael Kronenfield, executive VP of sales, to the post of chief operating officer of its subsidiary Adam Young Inc. Kronenfield joined Adam Young in 1989 after serving as a research executive with Harrington Righter & Parsons, a national sales rep owned by Cox Broadcasting.

USA Networks has promoted Richard Lynn to veep of business affairs and general counsel. Lynn joined USA as manager of business affairs in 1983. The cabler also has tapped Kathryn McArdle as director of longform programming. McArdle joins USA from Spelling Entertainment, where she was VP of movies and miniseries.

Univision has beefed up its sales and marketing department with the appointment of two new veepees. Jamie Weissenborn, formerly with cabler Comedy Central, has been named VP of sales development and marketing. Ron Stitt, an ABC network sales vet, has been tapped as VP of marketing services.

Steven Greengold has been promoted to chief financial officer for the Gotham-based Television Bureau of Advertising. Greengold joined the trade association in November 1996 as chief of finance and administration.

Michael J. Ross has been named veepee of marketing for the fast-growing promo firm Another Large Production. Ross will oversee marketing and new business development for the company, reporting to ALP prexy Phillip Large.

U.S. Satellite Broadcasting has promoted Mary Pat Ryan to exec VP of marketing and programming. The Minneapolis-based satcaster also upped Bernard J. Weiss to senior veepee and chief financial officer. Ryan and Weiss have been with the company since 1994.

Mark Litvack has been promoted to the position of director of legal affairs, worldwide anti-piracy at the Motion Picture Assn. and the Motion Picture Assn. of America. The MPA is the international arm of the MPAA. Also promoted at the MPAA was Ken Jacobson to the position MPAA vice president and director U.S. anti-piracy.

Showtime has awarded VP stripes to its director of film acquisitions Gary Garfinkel. In the new post, Garfinkel will buy movies for Showtime, the Movie Channel, Sundance Channel, Flix and the recently launched Showtime Extreme. He has worked on Showtime deals for theatrical movies from the network’s sister company Paramount Pictures and from Dimension Films and Live Entertainment.

UPN has tapped Lucia Cottone as director, drama development. Cottone joins UPN from Rysher Entertainment where she served as director of creative affairs. She was part of the team that oversaw production on “Nash Bridges,” “Highlander” and “Oz.” She was previously employed in that studio’s feature film post production department.
