Fox Kids Network has expanded its station relations and promotion department. Susan Kiel has been upped to veepee of the division; Kathleen Cecil has joined as director; Monique McAlonis has been bumped to manager, and Elizabeth Sagehorn has been added as coordinator. Kiel joined Fox Kids in 1997 as associate veepee of the department and will continue to work in tandem with the Fox Kids affiliates to maximize ratings, revenue, and promotional opportunities for the network.

Catherine Creswell has been named channel manager of World Movies. Formerly marketing manager of feevee channel producer XYZ Entertainment, Creswell replaces Diana Berman who was tapped as marketing manager of the Australian Film Commission. Meantime, former Bethesda, Maryland-based Discovery Networks Int’l. marketing manager Enn Love is acting Sydney-based channel manager of Discovery Australia-New Zealand, following the elevation of Deborah Stewart to Discovery Digital Networks programming operations director.

Caliban Filmworks, which specializes in creating high-end digital visual f/x for feature films (most recently Fox’s “X Files”), has expanded their services to commercials and has tapped Mark Loso as compositing supervisor to oversee the facility’s commercial productions. Caliban has additionally tapped visual effects producer Michael Hartog as a freelance visual effects supervi-sor for Caliban commercials.

Mark S. Pinsker has been bumped to senior veepee of special projects production at Saban Entertainment. In his new position, Pinsker will be responsible for production of special projects, including marketing, sales and advertising presentations for all divisions of Saban Entertainment, as well as corporate presentations for its parent company, Fox Family Worldwide. Pinsker was previously veepee, special projects, on-air advertising and promotion for the company.

Marjorie Kass has been upped to veepee, senior creative director, creative/marketing services at Showtime Networks Inc. In her new position, Kass will be responsible for overseeing the development of Showtime’s corporate brand image by directing the overall creative development of all print materials. Most recently, Kass was creative director of design services at the company.

Robin Ruse-Rinehart Barris has been upped to senior veepee of administration and operations for Imagine Entertainment. Barris supervises the areas of human resources, operations, accounting and administration for Imagine’s film and television companies.

Fox Family Channel has made several exec appointments. Julia Gilbert has been named veepee, production, reality-based programming, Fox Family Channel; Tracy Barrett has been named director, affiliate marketing; and Todd McNulty has joined as director, on-air promotion, family programming. Gilbert will oversee financial matters relating to production of reality-based programming at the channel, Barrett will oversee marketing and promotional campaigns and McNulty will oversee the production of on-air promotion for primetime programming.

Ethnic-American Broadcasting (EABC) has announced two executive appointments. Jim Helfgott has been named veep of affiliate sales and marketing. Patrick Cunningham has been named general manager of SkyView, the satellite distribution and marketing division of EABC. Prior to his appointment, Helfgott was president of SkyView, and Cunningham most recently served as EABC’s operations director.

Stacy Steinzeig has joined Mastermind Entertainment as head of management. Steinzieg most recently produced the indie feature “Urban Mythology.” Mastermind’s current slate includes “Office Bob,” starring Jason Alexander and “The Red Door,” with Diane Lane, Stockard Channing and Rod Steiger.

Feld Entertainment has upped Robert McHugh to veep, international sales and business development. McHugh will be responsible for presenting and marketing all Feld Entertainment engagements outside North America. He began his career with the company in 1988 as regional marketing director.

USA Networks has announced several key promotions. Lee Miller has been named veepee of human resources and joins USA from his senior VP post in the same department at Barney’s New York, Inc. Jim Degni has been upped to veepee of infor-mation technology, having joined the company in 1989 as director of management information systems. Also, Hali Simon has been upped to manager of media relations.

Susan McMurray has joined MGM Consumer Products as VP, international sales. McMurray will be responsible for business operations in all territories outside the U.S. and will oversee managing MGM’s network of international agents. She comes to MGM from Strottman International, Inc., where she served as veepee of licensing.

Paul Clement has been named veepee of sales at American Television Time. In his new position, Clement will be responsi-ble for handling the agency’s increase in business, most notably in short-form DRTV. Prior to joining the company, Clement worked in media supervision at Williams TV Time and Russ Reid.

BBC Worldwide and Discovery Communications, Inc. (DCI) has named Candace Carlisle chief operating officer of the “JVP,” the BBC/DCI joint venture production entity. In her new role, Carlisle will work closely with the chief executive of BBC Worldwide Americas, Peter Phippen. Prior to her appointment she was head of sales and co-productions for BBC Worldwide Americas.

Ken Olshansky has been upped to veepee of development and Andrea Miller has joined as senior veepee of sales and co-production at Sunbow Entertainment. Olshansky assumes responsibility for all creative development within the company, and Miller will head the international sales staff. Also upped at Sunbow is Andrew Karpen to general manager of operations and chief financial officer

CNBC has named Andrew Conte VP of management information systems (MIS) for NBC Cable Networks, including the CNBC cable network and cable ad sales for all of NBC’s cable properties. Conte, who was previously director of MIS desktop applications for NBC in N.Y., will be responsible for the operational leadership of computer systems, networks and the develop-ment and implementation of all information management strategies.

Maureen Smith has been upped to general manager of Fox Kids Network and executive veepee of Fox Family Worldwide. She will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of day-to-day operations at Fox Kids, as well as continuing to oversee scheduling of all dayparts of Fox Family Channel. Prior to her appointment, Smith served as senior veepee of planning, scheduling, and station relations at the company.

Country Music Television International has named Gill Roberts VP of marketing and programming of CMT Austra-lia/Pacific Rim. His new responsibilities will include marketing, programming, and advertising sales initiatives for the entire Pacific region. Previously, Robert served as general manager of strategic marketing for Sony Music Entertainment Australia.

Mark De Vitre has been named VP of business and legal affairs at FX Networks. In his new role, De Vitre will oversee negotiations and drafting of all talent and acquisition agreements for FX and fXM: Movies from Fox and manage the day-to-day legal responsibilities for the network. Prior to joining FX, De Vitre was director of business and legal affairs for WarnerVision Entertainment Inc. and Warner Home Video.

Leading Music Library has upped Steven Corn to the newly created position of VP/general manager. Previously veepee of creative affairs, his new responsibilities will include all day-to-day operations as well as continuing to supervise all music licensing and publishing interests for the company.

CNBC has promoted Robin Gellman to senior producer of “Equal Time,” the cable network’s nightly current events talk show. Based at CNBC’s Washington bureau, Gellman supervises all editorial decisions and future development of “Equal Time,” for which she has been a producer since Jan. 1997. Prior to her involvement with “Equal Time,” Gellman served as producer for CNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews” and played an integral part in the show’s launch.

U.S. Satellite Broadcasting has promoted Mary Pat Ryan to exec VP of marketing and programming. The Minneapolis-based satcaster also upped Bernard J. Weiss to senior veepee and chief financial officer. Ryan and Weiss have been with the company since 1994.

Mark Litvack has been promoted to the position of director of legal affairs, worldwide anti-piracy at the Motion Picture Assoc. and the Motion Picture Assoc. of America. The MPA is the international arm of the MPAA. Also promoted at the MPAA was Ken Jacobson to the position MPAA vice president and director U.S. anti-piracy.

UPN has tapped Lucia Cottone as director, drama development. Cottone joins UPN from Rysher Entertainment where she served as director of creative affairs. She was part of the team that oversaw production on “Nash Bridges,” “Highlander” and “Oz.” She was previously employed in that studio’s feature film post production department.

Howell Mette has been named veep of engineering for CBS Operations and Engineering, where he’ll take over responsibility for CBS’ National Football League telecasts. Mette has spent the past five years as director of news operations for CBS News.

Ron Sanders has been named Warner Home Video’s managing director for the U.K. and Ireland. He’ll report to Edward J. Byrnes, exec VP, WHV Intl. Sanders joined WHV in 1991 as veepee of sell-through sales. Prior to his position at WHV, Sanders served nine years with Proctor & Gamble in a variety of sales and marketing positions.

Atlanta-based Cox Communications has named Ellen M. East director of public relations. East will head the company’s corporate public affairs department, which encompasses PR, media relations, community affairs and corporate, internal and electronic communications. East will also serve as the company’s spokesperson. East has been with Cox since 1987, serving in various communications capacities.

Granite Broadcasting has upped Martin Edelman and William Ransom to senior veepees with responsibility for managing the company’s TV stations on the West Coast and Northeast, respectively. Edelman had been general manager of Granite’s Detroit outlet, while Ransom has been general manager of Granite’s station in Buffalo

Rosalie Frazier has been named chief operating officer of TV Strategy Group, the London-based research and consulting firm. Frazier, a veteran international media consultant, most recently served as director of Asian business development for Frank N. Magid Associates.

Marcia S. Ross has been upped to the new position of senior VP of casting for all three of the Disney-based motion picture banners. Ross will continue to be responsible for overseeing all aspects of casting for motion pictures produced under the Walt Disney, Touchstone and Hollywood Pictures banners. Ross began her career at the studio in 1995 when she was named VP of casting for Walt Disney Pictures and Touchstone Pictures.
