CTW ups Urist

Exec named group prexy

J. Baxter Urist will assume the title of group president, products and international television, at Children’s Television Workshop (CTW), reflecting some recent successes abroad with formats of “Sesame Street” and licensing bonanzas with Ernie and Elmo toys.

Urist, an eight-year veteran of CTW, will continue to supervise the company’s product licensing and international TV activities. He reports to Gary Knell, executive VP, operations.

For the last few years, Urist has overseen the launch of an Israeli-Palestinian co-production of “Sesame Street” and the opening of Sesame Street theme parks in Mexico and Brazil.

“Baxter has been a tremendous force in CTW’s global business expansion, bringing ‘Sesame Street’ to many emerging markets, including Russia, China, Latin America and the Middle East,” Knell said.
