The Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group has tapped Cherie Crane senior vice president of media.

She succeeds John Butkovich, who will stay at the studio to effect a smooth transition.

In her new post, Crane will devise and implement strategies for the studio’s slate of pics, as well as interface with the studio’s agency, McCann Erickson.

She reports to Robert Levin, Sony Pictures Entertainment president of worldwide marketing.

Crane joins the studio from Ogilvy & Mather after almost five years there as a senior partner and media director. From 1983-93, Crane worked at Ketchum Advertising, rising through the ranks to senior VP, director of planning and operations.

Crane began her career in Boston as a media planner and buyer at Harold Cabot, before moving to L.A.
