NBC veepee exits post for Philly

Joel Cheatwood, the news exec who recruited Jerry Springer for his short-lived stint as a commentator for the NBC O&O in Chicago, has left the NBC fold and joined CBS’s Philadelphia O&O as station manager.

Cheatwood had a rocky stint as veepee of news, advertising and promotion at NBC’s WMAQ Chicago, which he joined in 1997, followed by a very short tenure as veepee of daytime development for the Peacock O&O group, a post he assumed in May.

At CBS’ KYW Philadelphia, Cheatwood will oversee the station’s news department and the broadcast operations and engineering department. Before NBC, Cheatwood worked for Sunbeam Television’s WHDH Boston and WSVN Miami, where he developed a number of successful local TV shows.
