Cambridge puts golf on Marquee

Sports marketing co. keeps expanding with $2 mil deal

The Marquee Group, a marketing company focusing on sports, has bought Cambridge Sports Intl., a firm representing professional golfers for commercial endorsements and public appearances, for about $2 million in cash and stock.

This deal continues Marquee’s recent expansion. Two weeks ago, the company formed a new division called El Marquee to represent Hispanic athletes. Last month, Marquee bought the British company Park Associates, which represents professional soccer players.

The Cambridge deal gets Marquee into golf for the first time, representing such clients as John Daly, Scott Hoch, Michael Bradley and Scott Verplank. Bob Gutkowski, president and CEO of Marquee, and John Mascatello, president and CEO of Cambridge Sports, negotiated the deal.

Marquee’s businesses include event management, TV production and marketing, talent representation and various sports, news and entertainment consultancies.
