LONDON — BSkyB has secured a unique deal with a U.K. property developer to pre-install digital satellite dishes in 5000 new homes.
The arrangement with Wilcon Homes — which will pay for the installations — is intended to help boost acceptance of the minidishes, which are half the size of 60 cm analogue dishes.
BSkyB wants to push its 200-channel Sky Digital platform, launched last October. BSkyB is seeking similar deals with other developers.
The new homeowners will still have to pay $348 for a set-top box. In addition, the homes will also have a conventional TV aerial installed, capable of picking up ONdigital, the rival digital terrestrial platform. ONdigital’s box sells for the same price.
