Witt-Thomas, WB land Russell for ‘Spoils’

NEW YORK – David O. Russell has signed on to direct “Spoils of War,” a Gulf War drama to be produced by Witt-Thomas Films for Warner Bros. Russell, who last directed the Miramax comedy “Flirting With Disaster,” will be paid more than $2 million.

The film was scripted by John Ridley, whose recent credits include writing and directing “Cold Around the Heart” and scripting the drama “U-Turn.” “Spoils” is an adventure about a group of soldiers who stumble upon the existence of a treasure during the Gulf War.

The film was developed by Witt-Thomas vice president of production Kim Roth, and will be produced by Paul Witt, Tony Thomas and Ed McDonnell, who is Witt-Thomas’ president of production.
