Chuck Woolery is set to host a syndie revival of the gameshow “$25,000 Pyramid” for Columbia TriStar TV Distribution, although the denomination may be adjusted for inflation.
CTTD is expected to bring “Pyramid” out, possibly paired with another gamer, sometime next year. At present, Woolery is host of “The Dating Game,” part of CTTD’s “Dating/Newlywed Game Hour.”
The “Dating/Newlywed” block is struggling in its second year with sub-1 national Nielsen household ratings. The “Pyramid” block may be pitched to stations as a midseason replacement for “Dating/Newlywed,” sources said. CTTD officials confirmed Woolery is in line for hosting duties on “Pyramid” but would not elaborate further.
Woolery is best known for his 10-year stint as the matchmaker on the syndie dating gameshow “Love Connection.” More recently, he co-hosted the Family Channel’s talkshow “Home & Family” with Christina Ferrare.
The “Pyramid” quiz show has been around in various incarnations and denominations since the early 1970s. “The $10,000 Pyramid” bowed on CBS’ daytime sked in 1973 with Dick Clark as host. John Davidson fronted a short-lived syndie version of “$100,000 Pyramid” in 1991.
