Investigative consumer reporter Chuck Whitlock, a.k.a. the “Scambuster,” has signed a TV development deal with Warner Bros.’ Telepictures Prods. and has been named a contributor to WB’s syndie newsmagazine “Extra.”
“Chuck’s work is incredible in the way it captures people in the act of scamming — like ‘Candid Camera’ with a twist,” said “Extra” executive producer Steve Lange.
Whitlock’s overall deal with Telepictures calls for the Scambuster to develop specials and a series revolving around his investigative reporting and his tips on avoiding con artists.
Whitlock’s profile as a consumer advocate has been boosted by appearances on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” “Live With Regis & Kathie Lee,” NBC’s “Today,” CNN’s “Your Money” and CNBC’s “Steals and Deals,” among other shows. He won a laurel from the Society of Professional Journalists last year for his reporting on Medicare fraud for “Extra” syndie mag rival “Inside Edition.”
Whitlock also has authored several books on the subject of scams, including “Easy Money,” “Secrets of Selling” and the upcoming “Chuck Whitlock’s Scam School.”
