Viva Cinema moves into U.S.

HONG KONG — Star TV has expanded the reach of Viva Cinema, its all-Filipino movie channel, into the U.S. with cable deals in Guam and the Northern Marianas.

The 24-hour Tagalog-language channel is now available through Guam Cable TV and Saipan Cable TV, which together have a base of more than 40,000 subscribers.

Guam and Saipan have a combined population of 200,000 people, about 40% of Filipino ancestry.

“We’re extremely pleased at Viva’s reception in Guam and our newest alliance with Guam Cable TV,” said Dave Ilagan, Star’s general manager for Southeast Asia sales.

Viva Cinema is a joint venture between Star and Manila-based Viva Communications.
