MADRID — The pan-European satellite network Eurosport has signed up for carriage on Spanish digital direct-to-home platform, Via Digital.
Previously an analog satellite feed on Astra, Eurosport will broadcast 18 hours of programming a day via Via Digital, 10 hours of which will be in Spanish.
Sportcasting is emerging, with movies, as a key programming draw as Spain’s digital TV dogfight moves from battles over legislation to a straighter shoot-’em-up for subscribers.
Via Digital and rival CanalSatelite Digital (CSD) currently share pay-per-view rights to this season’s soccer league games. Via and CSD already have two sports channels apiece in their basic packages, including, for soccer addicts, a 10-hour daily soccer feed on CSD, Futbol Mundial.
