The retro trend continues. Columbia TriStar TV is out pitching a remake of the drama “Fantasy Island,” and sources say UPN is very interested in getting its hands on the show. UPN already is developing an updated version of “The Love Boat,” which aired on ABC for nearly a decade in the late ’70s until the mid-1980s.
Spelling’s “The Love Boat” and CTT’s “Fantasy Island” made a formidable Saturday night pair for years, and UPN would like to match them together again in hopes that lightning will strike twice. Other networks also may be in the running, but if UPN does get the show, the location probably will have to change. The original “Fantasy Island” was shot in Burbank, where UPN rival the WB network has its offices.
