Buena Vista Television and Planet 24 Prods. have tapped U.K. TV veteran Stephen Stewart as director of the upcoming syndie latenight strip “The Keenen Ivory Wayans Show.”

“Stephen is one of the best directors in the U.K,” said Charlie Parsons, managing director of Planet 24 and an executive producer of “The Keenen Ivory Wayans Show,” set to bow Aug. 4.

Stewart made his mark in the U.K. over the past decade as the director of such distinctive programs as Planet 24’s morning show, “The Big Breakfast,” the offbeat gameshow “Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush” and the latenight entertainment series “The Word.” The British Academy of Film and Television Arts winner’s other TV credits include the standup comedy showcase vehicles “London Underground” and “Gas” and the gameshow “Last Chance Lottery.”

Stewart began his career as a cameraman for the BBC in Northern Ireland. After relocating to London, he served as director of the long-running consumer affairs program “That’s Life” before leaving the BBC in 1990.
