NEW YORK — TV commercial production costs rose 6% last year, reversing a one-year drop in prices. An annual survey conducted by the American Assn. of Advertising Agencies released Monday showed the average cost of producing a national 30-second commercial rose to $278,000 last year, up from $263,000 in 1995, when prices fell 2%.
Talent costs last year rose 9%, averaging $12,000 per national 30-second spot, while directors’ fees remained stable, averaging $19,000 per spot. Music costs dropped 4% to $24,000. Total costs for commercials of all lengths rose 5% vs. an increase of less than 1% in 1995.
