HONG KONG — Despite months of economic turmoil in the region, CNN Intl. and TNT & Cartoon Network have made significant gains in distribution over the past year, according to Mike Byrd, managing director of Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific.
TNT & Cartoon Network, the 24 hour movie and cartoon service, is now available in 11.4 million homes in the region, up nearly 24% since December 1996.
And CNNI is now reaching 19.8 million homes across Asia Pacific, up more than 8% in the past year.
“Now that Turner’s networks are distributed on most major cable and pay TV systems in the region, our next steps are to increase advertising revenues and work closely with our business partners to help them build sub-scriber numbers,” Byrd said.
He said the company, which has 200 employees mostly at its Hong Kong headquarters, will be adding about 10 new jobs — primarily ad sales staffers — around the region in the year ahead.
