Cable’s Game Show Network, which has been a colossal bust since launching in early ’95, has struck a deal with cable giant Tele-Communications Inc. for carriage beginning in early summer.
A spokeswoman for the Sony-owned Game Show Network said that it’s estimated the service will be picked up by slightly more than a million homes over the course of the next four months and 4 million within two years. TCI has 18 million homes total, but there are no guarantees for pick-ups at present.
Even another million homes represents a fresh beginning, if not a windfall, for Game Show Network, which has been stalled at fewer than 5 million subscribers (roughly 3 million via satellite) for the better part of a year. The network expects, via a more aggressive sales posture, to be close to 10 million subs by year’s end.
