Turner Broadcasting Systems has reached agreement with Jones Intercable for continued carriage of TBS Superstation to the operator’s approximately 1.5 million subscribers pending the network’s conversion to a free-market basic cabler Jan. 1.
The deal makes Jones the first major MSO outside of Time Warner and Tele-Communications Inc. to sign up to carry TBS, which is looking to extract monthly license fees of 25¢ per subscriber from operators who have received the service without compensation since its bow in December 1976.
“We are very excited to be a part of the new TBS Superstation,” said Glenn R. Jones, chairman and CEO for Jones Intercable. “With the TBS conversion, we expect a top-notch product to become even better. That’s a worthwhile investment for us, and most importantly, for our customers.
