Week two of the November sweep, the week ending Nov. 9, was a strong one for most syndie skeins, according to Nielsen’s latest national syndie ratings report.

With stations cranking up the level of promotions and shows wheeling out their best tune-in stunt material, many shows hit new highs for the season during the week.

In the talkshow arena, the success story of the sweep continues to be Universal TV’s “Jerry Springer,” who rose 18% from the previous week to hit a new all-time high in the five-year history of the show, a 4.7 household rating. Compared to the same week last year, “Jerry Springer” was up a whopping 74%.

Still comfortably atop the yak pack was King World’s “Oprah Winfrey,” which soared 13% week-to-week to an 8.1. In year-to-year comparisons, however, “Oprah” was off 5%. Warner Bros.’ “Rosie O’Donnell” climbed 9% to its highest household number of the season, a 5.0, which marked a 25% gain over the same week last year.

Universal’s “Sally Jessy Raphael” was up 5% week-to-week to a 4.5. Buena Vista TV’s “Live With Regis & Kathie Lee” slipped 2%, after posting gains during the previous three weeks, to a 4.4. Year-to-year, the show is up 10%. At the halfway mark of the November sweep, the show was reigning in daytime with a 4.7 in Nielsen’s 38 metered markets.

Paramount’s “Montel Williams” was on a roll, climbing 13% week-to-week to a 4.3, marking a 5% increase over its year-ago mark. Warner Bros. “Jenny Jones” was up 6% to a 3.8, but down 10% year-to-year. Columbia TriStar’s “Ricki Lake” inched up 3% to a 3.1, but was off 9% from year-ago.

Par’s “Maury Povich” was flat week-to-week at a 3.1. Tribune Entertainment’s “Geraldo Rivera” ballooned 10% to a 2.2, also marking a 10% gain over year-ago.

The momentum among syndie talkers stalled in latenight. Buena Vista TV’s “Keenen Ivory Wayans” dipped 12% to a 1.5. Columbia TriStar’s “Vibe,” in its second week with new host Sinbad, was flat at a 1.7.

Among the freshman strips, Eyemark Entertainment’s “Martha Stewart Living” rose 4% to a 2.8, its highest household rating yet. Eyemark’s “Gayle King” was flat at a 2.0. Warner Bros.’ “The People’s Court” also hit a new high, growing 4% week-to-week to a 2.5. Worldvision’s gameshow “Pictionary” hiked 8% to a 1.4.

Reality programs gained ground as the approaching winter apparently convinced more viewers to curl up in front of the TV set in the afternoon and evening.

Paramount’s sophomore reality mag “Real TV” matched its highest mark ever, gaining 9% week-to-week to a 3.6. Year-to-year, “Real TV” is up 33%. Worldvision’s court show “Judge Judy” creeped up 3% to a 3.3, marking a staggering 120% increase over its year-ago mark. Rysher Entertainment’s “Strange Universe” spiked 20% to a 1.2.

At the top of the syndie charts, King World’s “Wheel of Fortune” topped off at a 12.5, flat from the previous week. “Jeopardy!” was up 2% to a 10.1.

In the magazine world, Paramount’s “Entertainment Tonight” made it 68 weeks in a row at the top of the heap, inching up 2% to a 6.4. King World’s “Inside Edition” was up 7% to a 4.6, a new high for the season. Warner Bros.’ “Extra” was off 2% to a 4.4. Par’s “Hard Copy” gained 3% to a 3.6, a new season high.

King World’s “American Journal” rose 4% week-to-week to a 2.9. NBC/Twentieth TV’s “Access Hollywood” was flat at a 2.2.

Among off-network sitcoms, Paramount’s rookie hit “Frasier” dipped 2% to a 5.2 after posting gains during the previous three weeks. Buena Vista’s “Home Improvement” was up 7% to a 9.3, but off 10% from this time last year. Columbia TriStar’s “Seinfeld” grew 5% to an 8.2, marking a 4% increase over year-ago.

On the weekly side, the big gainer of the week was Western Intl. Syndication’s freshman action-hour “Conan: The Adventurer,” which jumped 40% week-to-week from a 1.5 to a 2.1.

Twentieth TV’s off-net “X-Files” eased 1% to a 7.8. Universal TV’s “Xena: Warrior Princess” rose 3% to a 6.2, marking a 19% spike over year-ago. U’s “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” muscled a 9% gain to a 6.1. Par’s “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” zoomed up 18% to a 6.0. “Gene Roddenberry’s Earth: Final Conflict,” a newcomer from Tribune Entertainment and Atlantis Films, inched up 2% to a 4.3.
