King World has sold its newsmag “Inside Edition” in 90 markets, including all of the top 10, for next season. ABC O&O WLS Chicago, and KHOU Houston have renewed “Inside Edition” through the year 2000. “American Journal” has been sold in 64 markets, including nine of the top 10, for next season. King World has given both a firm go.
Tribune Entertainment Co. has sold both of its new action hours in 80% of the country for fall. “Battleground Earth” has cleared 93 markets, while “Night Man” has cleared 89. New stations buying the two hours are: KTVU San Francisco, WATL Atlanta and WISN Milwaukee.
Entertainment attorney Peter Franck has joined law firm Hanson, Bridgett, Marcus, Vlahos & Rudy as Of Counsel. In private practice since 1963, Franck brings to the company a wealth of music, film, video and publishing knowledge. He is especially active in First Amendment and media law.
BET Movies/Starz! 3, the first black movie channel to come to cable, will launch Feb. 1 and be simulcast on Saturday nights throughout February on its Encore Media Corp. sister network, Black Entertainment Television (BET).
Among the films scheduled for broadcast on BET Movies in its early days are “Do the Right Thing,” “Cry Freedom,” “Clockers” and “Major Payne.” Actor Denzel Washington is one of the network’s charter investors and plans to lend it his promotional support.
