NEW YORK — Tracy Scoggins will in effect replace Claudia Christian as the female lead in Warner Bros.’ “Babylon 5,” which has just gone back into production for TNT after a four-year ride in firstrun syndication.
Christian, who played Lt. Cmdr. Susan Ivanova, dropped out earlier this year, according to sources, after the executive producers of the sci-fi series, Doug Netter, J. Michael Straczynski and John Copeland, decided not to agree to her demands. Christian wanted to continue in the role, but at a reduced schedule so she could appear in theatrical movies.
Scoggins (“Lois & Clark”) will come in as a new character, Capt. Elizabeth Lochley. Also in the cast are Bruce Boxleitner, Jerry Doyle and Mira Furlan.
Christian has made two theatricals just this summer, “Thick & Thin,” with Robert Townsend and John Turturro, and “Guardian,” with Marc Singer.
The new episodes of “Babylon 5” begin their weekly Monday primetime run on TNT Jan. 19, 1998. TNT will also strip the 88 rerun hours.
