Schlatter to create spex for Fox

Fox Broadcasting Co. has entered into a production and development deal with “Laugh-In” creator and executive producer George Schlatter, who will produce a series of comedy specials for the network.

Under the agreement, Fox will broadcast the annual American Comedy Awards for the next three seasons, starting in March 1998. The award show has been airing on ABC since 1987.

Schlatter will also produce a new annual two-hour special called “American Comedy Honors,” which will salute five top comedians. The first of these specials will air next season.

The production company will also develop other comedy specials — for Fox and the FX cabler — which could eventually be turned into series.
