Warner Bros Intl. TV Distribution has clinched an unusual 3-year free TV output deal in Scandinavia with the commercial broadcaster SBS and with its chief rivals, the public broadcasters in the region.
The agreement provides the free TV rights to a slate of new and library feature films, TV movies and miniseries, new and returning series and sports programming for SBS’s stations Kanal 5 (Sweden), TV Norge (Norway) and TV Danmark (Denmark) as well as for the pubcasters SVT, NRK and DR in those respective territories.
The deal was negotiated by Donna Brett, VP, European regional sales for WBITD, and concluded at the just-wrapped L.A. Screenings. It includes films like “Batman Forever,” “The Bridges of Madison County” and “Eraser” as well as new fall series like the hot sitcom “Veronica’s Closet.” Also included in the deal are the upcoming epic docus “The Cold War” and “Millennium,” from Turner Original Prods., and the broadcast rights to the 1998 Goodwill Games.
